Anime Travel 6 – Amagami SS in Real Life

Kimigahama beach in real life

The next anime travel I would like to share is one of another childhood favorite, Amagami SS. For your info, the anime itself is based of a dating sim game released in PS2, PSP, and PS Vita. With the source material from dating sim, that should imply multiple heroine. But unlike your typical cliché harem anime, they chose to write an omnibus format where each heroine were given each 4 episodes. (I haven’t seen anything like that back then so I think it was very cool).

Anyway, the location of Amagami SS was based of a beautiful town at the tip of Chiba facing directly towards Pacific Ocean called Chōshi (JP: 銚子).

Seems that Amagami is an icon for Chōshi that they make an event to celebrate the 10th Anniversary

(NGL I want to visit this town again once I have a chance to go back to Japan! It was that beautiful).

Also, this should be the setting of another anime movie Uchiage Hanabi which I will mention a little in this post. I plan to have another pilgrimage for that movie alone next time (If I can return to Japan one day).

I hopped on the first JR Sōbu-Honsen line train (JP: 総武本線) from Chiba St. heading to Chōshi Station. After arriving at Chōshi St., I directly took the local Chōshi railway (JP: 銚子電鉄) to Tokawa St. (JP: 外川駅) as I was heading to Fureai Hiroba Park.

Train of Chōshi line reminds me of the train from Uchiage Hanabi The train was so unique that they put lots of pink decorations.

Choshi railpass costed 700 Yen with ride-as-you-please for the whole day!

1. Fureai Hiroba Park

The first spot that I went into is the Fureai Hiroba park. I needed 15 minutes by walking from Tokawa St to this park. This place is well-known point where we are able to see the roundness of the globe. In anime, I remembered Junichi often came to this park.

(If you watched the anime, you should know that every arc started with Junichi got broken-hearted as his crush did not come to the promised place in this very park).

Across the park, there was the iconic observatory deck by the name ”Hill where Roundess of Earth is Visible” (JP: 地球の丸く見える丘展望台). Also I found a huge sundial and Filipino-Japanese friendship monument.

2. Chōshi Marina Beach

The second spot I visited was the Marina beach. I need to walk around 30 minutes from Fureai Hiroba park (but if you don’t feel like walking, bicycle rentals is highly recommended!).

In the anime, this beach mainly shown during Nanasaki Ai’s arc.

Not far from marina beach, we can find Chōshi geopark where there is some cool rock formation at the sea. One of them called the Inuiwa/Dog Rock (JP: 犬岩). According to the local guide, this rock is named as such due to its shape somehow resambles dogs ears.

Inuiwa rock, looks more like a rabbit than a dog lol

3. Kimigahama Beach

After strolling around Marina beach, I got back to Tokawa St. and heading to Kimigahama St. by the same local train. In the anime, scenes for Kimigahama Beach mostly appeared in Tanamachi Kaoru’s arc.

If you get off at Kimigahama St., you should find this small cenotaph. Seems like there used to be a cat always waiting for the tourist in front of the Kimigahama Station

4. Chōshi Station

After strolling around Kimigahama beach, I walked to Inubō St. and went back to Chōshi Station. Here we can find yet another landmark shown in the anime.

If you want to explore Chōshi Station, I highly recommend to rent an electric bicycle from the stand in front of the station. It costed 500 Yen for 2 hours, but I suggest you rent at least 4 hours to explore the whole town!

Not far from the station, there is a Gasto family restaurant where it seemed to be the setting of where Kaoru was having her part-time job as a waitress. It took around 3 minutes by bicycle from the station to get there.

5. Kiyokawachō Daiichi Park

Next spot that I stopped by was the local playground park in Kiyokawachō (JP: 清川町). This place was mostly shown in Rihoko and Ai’s arc.

6. Chōshi City Highschool

The journey shouldn’t be complete if we don’t stop by the school where Kibitō High school where Junichi rolled into. By the time I visited the school, there seemed to be a graduation ceremony.

I really weren’t able to enter the school building unless it is opened for public (for example: school festivals). So I only able to take photograph of the surrounding roads in front of the school.

Five minutes by bicycle from the school, you can find a view from familiar shot you can see every next-episode sneek-peek scenes. This place is located in Uenocho area (JP: 上野町).

I am not sure this is the same house but it looked
so similar with the nice touch from the windmills afar

7. Kawaguchi Shrine

The next spot that I visited was the Kawaguchi Shrine (JP: 川口神社). It took around 20 minutes by bicycle to get there. This spot is mostly shown during Tsukasa’s arc and once during Rihoko’s arc.

8. Chōshi Port Tower

The final spot that I visited was the iconic Port Tower, which appeared when Junichi and Kaoru had their Christmas date. They particularly set this place as a good spot for date so I highly recommend this place for your romantic pursuit!

I think the glass floor was a nice improv, still a beautiful view nonetheless

They held a 10th Anniversary of Amagami in Port Tower where they had an exhibitions and sold Amagami merchandises.

Oh yes best girl Ayatsuji-san!

That wraps-up my trip in Choushi! If I have an opportunity to go back to Japan, surely this will be the first place I will revisit!

To close the post, here’s the Farewell sign found near the

Big thanks to Ayamiya-san (JP: 絢宮さん) for the very helpful guide! You can check the link to the post here :
